Student Organizations

Omani Student Association

Abdullah Alashahri, is a grad student from Salalah, Oman. Abdullah runs social media for the organization and says that one purpose of the OSA is to help educate other students on campus about the Omani culture.

About once a month or so, the OSA gathers to talk about how to make that happen, whether it be discussing collaborating with other student organisations or planning a celebration.

Abdullah says that often the OSA has food during their meetings. Kabsa, a traditional dish made with rice and chicken or fish, is usually eaten.

The OSA often celebrates the birthday of Qaboos bin Said Al Said, the sultan of Oman, on Nov. 18th. Abdullah says that the reason for this tradition is to honour Qaboos for his contributions to their country, taking it from poor to rich during his reign of nearly 50 years.
